How It Began
The company was the flagship venture of former Ohio Mattress Company employee, Ron Trzcinski. In its heyday,the Ohio Mattress Company was a market leader in the manufacture and marketing of mattresses and box spring units. Ron Trzcinski, then the President and Chief Operating Officer left the company in 1988 following its decision to submit to a leveraged buyout. RonĀ felt that the profiteering motives of the new owners did not match his own basic principles.
Ron Trzcinski then gave life to the idea of starting his own mattress company. He the met up two former colleagues Perry Doerman of Ohio Mattress and Larry Carlson of Sealy’s. The trio went on to establish The Original Mattress Factory. The company opened its doors in Cleveland, Ohio in June 1990. The company has increased its staff strength from a meagre 5 to 500 over the years and now has a presence in 11 different locations of the country, where it is regarded as one of the most reputable mattress discounters. Its showrooms have also crossed the 100 mark.
