The Difference Between Memory Foam Mattresses and Coil Spring Mattresses
Written by admin on November 4th, 2009Have you ever thought of how people decided to begin sleeping on springs in the first instance ? I mean, consider it for a minute, what would it feel like to lay down on the bare springs? And why lying on springs with any kind of covering over them, is considered any better?
The invention of a coil spring mattress was first documented, by patent, in 1865, and there have only been a couple of minor upgrades , to that primary construction , in the next 140 years. During the same period, we went from ploughing earth with oxen, to men travelling to space. Don’t you find it possible that we could find fresh ideas and materials to enhance the mattresses we spend 1/3 of our lives on?
The differences between a regular coil spring mattress and a memory foam mattress, will be presented, to help you understand the difference.
The Difference In Total Body Support
One feature, in which a memory foam mattress is better for you is the feature of complete body support. A memory foam mattress and an innerspring mattress differ a lot in this respect. An innerspring mattress makes you adapt to it. The pressure, from the coil springs, in the mattress, is directed at your body. It’s like a push and shove match. You’re pushing down on the springs, forcing them to bounce back and they’re shoving back against you, trying to uncoil. On a coil spring mattress, your body must adjust to the mattress’s shape. This is the reason you experience sore back and stiffness, when you get up in the morning. With the best memory foam mattress, everything is on the contrary. The memory foam adapts to your body, because your body exerts it’s force onto it. So, as you lie on it , you will feel the memory foam altering to accommodate you, leaving you with a feeling of total relaxation. It is because of this feature, of a memory foam mattress, to fully support your body and adjust to your weight, that the movements of the other person in the bed will not affect you. As coil spring mattresses do not adjust to your body , they cannot extend your weight evenly. If you’re going to use your mattress with an adjustable bed, memory foam provides much more elasticity allowing you to benefit from the full range of motion an adjustable bed offers.
One more Distinction Is Temperature Sensitivity
One more distinction, between coil spring and memory foam mattresses, is that memory foam mattresses have the ability to respond to temperature . The memory foam is able to sense the various temperatures of your body and either be hard or become soft . This gives you a great feeling of comfort when it has absorbed the heat of your body and gets softer. Innerspring mattresses are unable to do so . They are unable to respond to your body heat, and this is why anyone , who is sick with a fever, would be much more comfortable on a memory foam mattress.
Plan a trip to your local mattress shop to try and lie on the innerspring mattress vs. the memory foam mattress and see if you don’t agree that there’s no comparison in comfort levels.
