The Needs of a Modern Home May Include a Glass Coffee Table
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009There is a silent argument that fills every household in the nation. It’s a question that arises for every fussy cleaner and obsessive hygiene fan. It doesn’t often come up in conversation because you either agree or you don’t, case closed. The question: glass, yes or no? Today, America is all about the latest and the best of everything. Things should look great, but also have a useful purpose. Great visual effect and pizzazz are essential. And so, as homeowners and decorators continue the new frontier of modern furnishing, the need for glass in the house has come into question. Perhaps a bedroom has a glass display case. And the noguchi table in the living room? Is any piece of furniture worth keeping for the sake of beauty?
There is no denying the sleek look of glass. The transparent properties of glass add to its beauty; producing rainbows in the sun and accentuating candlelight at night. Glass is a beautiful thing to behold. It’s simple beauty leaves one no surprise that it is a popular home decoration. With the diversity of modern furniture what it is today, there is the fair share of glass models amongst the mahogany and oak book shelves. If a person is merely choosing furniture for looks, glass could be a must-have in the household.
And yet, there can be many bad effects attached to owning glass furniture. Of course, there are advantages and drawbacks both for glass. Glass, for all its beauty and splendor, is a hassle. It is unforgiving in terms of fingerprints and smudges, and water pools on it easily. Caring for glass furniture can be time intensive. Few are the people that want to wipe and polish glass surfaces and their nelson bench every single day. The task merely proves to daunting for some homeowners.
And let’s not forget the matters of safety that glass threatens in the household. If you are a new parent for the first or even third time, you know how difficult it is have both glass and children in the house. Children leave handprints on the glass, and you are left to worry if there will be an accident leaving behind hurt children and shattered glass. It is one thing to knock over a wooden bench. A shattered glass coffee table is another thing entirely. It’s an accident that makes every parent shudder and hope never happens.
But if you have the will power and the cleaning technology, you have the ability to choose whether or not you want glass anything in your house. As many benefits as there are to having glass furniture, there are some drawbacks as well. Perhaps it isn’t the best choice for those who dislike to clean often, or those with young children. However, for others, it can be a stunning addition to any communal room.
