Bedroom Decorating Ideas: What Men Really Like
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010Gone are the days when a man’s bedroom looks like an untidy heap of colors, shapes and furnishings. Nowadays, more and more men are into creating their own comfort zone. While the sense of style may have evolved, the same approach in selecting items remains the same: simplicity.
Many men opt for items that require little maintenance. And such isn’t at all that surprising. They like hairstyles that can be fixed by a simple brushing with the fingers. They like wedding bands for men that are discreet and won’t get in the way of their do-it-yourself tendencies. Items they pick for their bedrooms need to be the same: fuss free.
There are surfaces that are preferred by men. Other than looking stunning and masculine, there’s another reason why they prefer such surfaces. And that’s the practicality they possess. Some examples of these surfaces include stainless steel, stone and wood. All it takes is a quick wipe of a cloth, and cleaning is done.
Having elements of the outdoors inside is also important for them. A full view of a mountain, river, public park, etc. Suits them best. Install massive windows to allow natural air and light in as much as possible. In addition, have less of curtains, blinds or any other fixtures that will hinder the view or air and light to get in. When it comes to items, colors such as dark green, navy blue and red are favorites.
Of course the bedroom isn’t complete without a good bed, and it’s what men want to be the centerpiece. Favorite materials for the bed frames are hardwood and iron. Also, a nightstand is necessary. It allows them to easily reach for the alarm clock, a book or their pocket MP3 player at any given time. Throw in a quilt set with bold or solid colors. Quilts with patterns such as pinstripes, herringbone or plaids will also do.
Many appliances are designed to be space savers, like flat screen TVs. So ditch the massive armoires and other similar furnishings. But men also want places where they can place their things. A vanity with multiple drawers will help maintain a clutter-free room. Go for furnishings that are multifunctional.
Compared to women, women pick each and every item because of the way they look. Men, on the other hand, go for those that are low maintenance yet functional. Take for example shopping for womens and mens wedding rings. Chances are the man is the one to finish first. They simply want the quality, and not the extras.
