In its simplest form, a bean bag is a closed bag that is filled with dried PVC pellets. But this simple piece of furniture has been put to the most extensive selection of uses. Therefore, you can as easily have beanbag juggling props (as they don’t hurt or break) as you can have beanbag chairs. In this and subsequent pieces, we will try and gain an idea to beanbags are so popular, as well as what can be done to care for them.

Given that beanbag chairs are so appreciated, it would probably help if we took them represent all beanbag products, as the beauty of beanbags is that what works for one usually works for another, although the substance employed for the bean bags may vary, and that infers there will be slight differences with maintenance methods.

However whichever the usefulness of a bean bag, the main features which you associate with one are enjoyment, comfort, and style. Also the entire process of creating a beanbag chair, for example, is so wonderfully simple that you wonder that someone didn’t think of it long before it was, which was in the late nineteen sixties.  The popularity lasted into the beginning of the nineteen seventies, although these types of nascent beanbags were stuffed with Styrofoam and PVC pellets. Following a drop in popularity in 1980s, beanbags were back with a bang in the nineteen nineties, as producers now began stuffing beanbags with shredded polyurethane foam, which was superbly comfortable.

Thanks to modern innovations for instance the use of different designs in the bags, beanbag furniture now has also come to be regarded as chic, and an ideal gift item. However, for all its fun nature, a beanbag does require some looking after, mainly due to the two materials most commonly used to make bean bags - leather and vinyl, are reasonably high-maintenance.

Therefore, the number 1 rule is to clean your bean bag furniture as much as possible, especially considering where you put it and howoften it is used. However, be careful not to employ strong cleansing detergents, and this includes many regular household solvents, but use mild detergents diluted in water. And, don’t use rough material (which may damage the outside) instead of a soft substance.Should you have to get rid of deep-seated stains, try using a soft-bristle toothbrush. Ideally, do not allow a stain to dry up too long. Clean the affected part as quickly as the stain appears. And, of course, never position any beanbag near to a heater as vinyl in particular melts fairly easily.

Finally, any beanbag owner can tell you that re-stuffing a beanbag that has become flat is very much part and parcel of life with any beanbag item, in particular beanbag chairs. So, make sure you are aware of the re-stuffing technique. Be warned, because while the refilling operation might appear easy, polyurethane beads are extremely tricky to handle, as anyone who has done so can tell you. There’s a good chance that they will drive you quite mad before you’ve finally managed to gather them all, although then you can see the funny side, at last you know fun of having a bean bag!
