Preserving and Staining Your Teak
seat.~It really isn’t all that necessary to defend teak wood seats.~You genuinely don’t need to defend your teak shower stool.} If left in its organic state, teakwood doesn’t really require any upkeep, and it is exclusive in that aspect. You can leave teak wood outdoors all year prolonged you don’t have to be troubled about it, even in weather conditions that are extreme. It is because of this that many people deem teakwood as the supreme standard for any type of outdoor garden furniture. This is why people love teak furniture so much.
It is true that after being exposed to the sun for a lengthy period of time that teakwood will start to turn a silvery gray color, but this is a biological process and doesn’t harm the structural integrity of the wood at all.
For people who want to preserve the native color of the wood that it has when they buy their furniture, it is a common practice to use a teak sealant. It is often used to help to give the teak wood a darker color as well. Applying a teak sealant to your furnishings will do more than just help to darken it up, it will also provide a UV protection and an anti-fungicide which will keep mold from developing. Whether you’re teak furniture is aged or whether it is new doesn’t genuinely matter, you can place a teak sealants on any piece after it has been cleaned. You have to realize that sealant isn’t the same thing as varnish. It simply acts to preserve the wood while allowing it to breathe and release oils naturally. Unlike lacquer this will not peel or bubble up. This is going to help to stain your wood and protect it at the same time. By standing your teak a darker color, you will be providing it with more UV protection, and in the end you are going to have to stain it less. If any unfortunate circumstance you already have a piece of teak furnishings that has been varnished, you will need to sand all of that old varnish off and then either leave it inherent or put on a stain.
It isn’t very difficult to apply the preservative and it is pretty straightforward. You want to make sure that you don’t put your first coat on unless the furnishings has been sitting in the sun for a few weeks before hand. This assures that all of the wood grains are open. When you are making application, simply spray it on to the furniture and then rub it with a rag. Be sure that you apply two coats, and make sure that you apply it everywhere. If you are applying the stain on any surface that you care about, then you need to make sure that you put something under your wood as you don’t want to cause stain damage to anything you care about. You will need to apply the stain yearly after it has been washed with a mild detergent and water, but only to the surfaces that gets on
After doing this to your furniture you really have to do very little else to protect it. Going once in a while it wouldn’t hurt to provide your furniture with a good washing to remove any type of soiling from food and dirty hands and such. Be careful spilling things on the sealant like coffee, wine, or foods that stain, as these can penetrate through the sealant and leave stains on the teak. They do make a teak clear coat that you can apply to services that might be in danger in order to improve the resistance to staining.
Because of the native oils and teak, it is pretty much impervious to water. Because of this, things like lacquer, water sealers, and products with an oil base aren’t recommended for this type of furnishings. By putting polyurethane or glaze products on it you can be assured that they will peel off and chip. This can really make a piece of beautiful furniture ugly.
If you’re thinking of putting oil on your teak furnishings to help stain it, think again as this will only provide an avenue for mold to start growing on your furniture, rather than the wanted effect of a darker color. For someone who has done this, and they have mold growing on the furniture, you need to wash the furniture with bleach and soap, and then sand the surface to remove the mold.
If you enjoy spending time outdoors relaxing, then purchasing a piece of teak wood furnishings is an excellent investment. It adds a classy look to any yard. Knowing how to take care of teak furniture is vital to defend your investment.
